Supreme Court Upholds Birthright Citizenship in Major Defeat for Trump
In a judgment delivered in a six-to-three majority decision, the United States Supreme Court dismissed the executive order by President Donald Trump seeking to end the policy of bestowing birthright citizenship upon children of illegal immigrants and temporary visitors to the country. This Supreme Court decision was authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, who pointed out that according to the 14th Amendment, all individuals born in American territory have the right to citizenship. While the decision was described as “devastating” by the president, civil rights organizations hailed the historic decision.
